  • THE STEEL SPRINGS FEATURING TEX PERKINS & RON BARASSI release 'One Minute's Silence'

    'ONE MINUTE'S SILENCE'

    BY THE STEEL SPRINGS FEATURING
    TEX PERKINS & RON BARASSI

    AVAILABLE NOW ON ITUNES
TO BE PERFORMED AT MCG ON ANZAC DAY

To commemorate the Centenary of ANZAC, ARIA award winning musician Tex Perkinshas recorded 'One Minute's Silence' featuring Australian Rules Football legend Ron Barassi.

The Beasts of Bourbon and Cruel Sea front man, Tex Perkins, is joined by The Steel Springs (taking their name from a pivotal scene in the movie Gallipoli), The Welsh Choir and Ron Barassi who provides the voice of an unknown soldier "I was once like you, young and free, your future is my history. Lest We Forget".

The song was written by author of the Random House best-seller Saturday Afternoon Fever, Matthew Hardy, with help from local muso Richard Gillard (Secret Life Of Us Soundtrack) with profits going to Legacy. Hardy says "Listen to it once the whole way through and tell us you didn't get goose bumps".

Matthew Hardy said "I recalled how Ron Barassi's father was a Rat Of Tobruk who died in action. I approached Ron with the song and he was on board at once. He does a lot for Legacy already and was happy to assist."

This unique and heart-warming song will be performed live for the very first time by The Steel Springs with Tex Perkins in a fan-packed MCG on Anzac Day.

The single is available via iTunes for $2.19 with proceeds to LEGACY.

    'One Minute's Silence' Lyrics

One minute's silence, lest we forget
The Army Corp that went to war
And still haven't come home yet

    One minute's silence
    Dawn service at the Shrine
    Keep April 25 alive
Remember those who did not survive

    One minute's silence
For we are young and free
Went to fight to uphold our rights
    Landed at Gallipoli
    One minute's silence
For we are young and free
    One minute's silence
For we are young and free

    We love our island
    Safe in the South Seas
    Some call us lucky
As lucky as we can be
    Some say it's beautiful
    Almost Heavenly
    Because the Anzacs
    Ensured that it would be

    One minute's silence
    Gunfire lights the sky
    It's not surprising
They played two-up on the sly
Have a beer if you're near an RSL
Wear a medal proud on your lapel
Spare a thought for those who endured Hell

    One minute's silence
    Preserve the legacy
    For diggers and their families
    Respect their memories
    One minute's silence
For we are young and free

Spare a moment's silence for me
    I was once like you
    Young and free
    Your future is my history
    Lest we forget

One minute's silence, lest we forget
The Army Corp that went to war
And still haven't come home yet.

Robert Lloyd has served the Australian and International Arts/Music world since 1986. Beginning in Adelaide he has travelled the world performing and composing his unique music and songs.

I have a couple of Robert’s albums but have seen little of him live so it was wonderful to be invited to see his performance at Holy Trinity Church in East Melbourne, a show that is part of the MelbourneEast Arts Festival.

President of Iceland Olafur Ragnar Grimsson identifies that it is a sane choice by nations to protect their democracies by simply allowing the banks to crash and default the payment of loans due to the IMF and simply rebuild their countries from the ground up.

After suffering IMF debts that were 10 times their national GDP, when the GFC hit, unlike Australia, Iceland's banks went crashing down in tune with the EU.

To take this idea of Crowd Sourced Democracy and apply it to Australia isn't as far fetched as we may think.

We all identify as Australians, whether from the far east, west, north or south, and every bit in the middle of this country. Our geological wealth is being sucked out of the country with relatively poor returns to the national coffers and our economy is tortured by global financial and economic organisations that would
