    Stokehouse lost to fire

    St Kilda Beach Icon Gone!

A very sad day for Melbourne and particularly St Kilda as renowned beachfront destination venue and restaurant, The Stokehouse, burnt out of control on the foreshore. Repeated explosions could be heard going off like fire crackers and the upper level collapsed into the building.

No injuries have been noted to date, allegedly patrons were rushed from the upper level when the fire is reported to have started in the kitchen. The

Queen sends message over NSW bushfires

    H. M. Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, has expressed her admiration for the firefighters, volunteers and emergency workers battling the wildfires in New South Wales as she sends her sympathies to all those affected.

In a personal message to the people of the State conveyed through NSW Governor Marie Bashir, the Queen sent her sympathies to those hit by the fires.

"I would like to convey my heartfelt sympathies to all those who have been affected by the

MFB HEADQUARTERS AND FIRE STATION TO CLOSE AS A PRECAUTION

The preliminary results of a management-initiated inspection of Metropolitan Fire Brigade’s Eastern Hill Headquarters late last week identified asbestos-containing material in the ceiling area of the building where the executive offices are located. Air quality monitoring in that area, initiated immediately after the inspection, detected no asbestos in the air. As a precaution the Eastern Hill Office will be closed until further notice while further inspections are undertaken. The asbestos-containing m...

    Public Consultation at Acland Court

On Thursday morning between 10am and 12 noon PTV, Yarra Trams and Vic Roads held another public viewing and question and answer session at which around 100 or so people ventured down to have a look and engage in some very vigorous discussion.

Serge Thomann attended this information session but sadly the options that council had put forth as alternatives were not on the table for discussion so it was again a bit of a mismanaged

    Questionable street art, really?

Have your say about our streetscape Tolarno is famous for its association with artwork, artisans and artists whether it be the inimitable Mirka Mora, Frank Malerba or magician chefs like Guy Grossi. Whilst taking a tour of the establishment with owner Jim Fagan I found the volume of work displayed just mind blowing. Jim was also telling of his annual grant for new artists and Tolarno has many of the winning pieces still adorning their walls after purchase from the artists. He struck me as a serio...

    Shooting Gallery in R3615

R3615 is the designation for the lane that runs between the old Felix Bar and the Cellars and here we have found one of the more unsafe areas in St Kilda. I noticed a council crew leaving the area after a clean up of syringes and blood and came back a few hours later and already there were new injection rubbish left on the site. Council needs to ensure something is done to ensure that this area is lock up so as to discourage users leaving their residue for others to clean up. ...

    Manus Island madness

    We are a disgrace

Watching 7:30 I was particularly appalled by the manner in which we are dealing with not only the people coming to Australia by boats, but the way the rubbish is spoiling this natural indigenous paradise.

Manus Island has been used not only as a dumping ground for our unwanted refugees but also mismanaged to a point where this very small island's food supply and comfort of natural balance are being overwhelmed by blow flies that are breeding in OUR rubbish!

    Save the Palace

It's clear that from behind the keyboards of Melbourne, many people are outraged that the heritage listed Palace Theatre (home to live music since 1987) is to be demolished to make way for "luxury" apartments.

But nothing will change from behind a keyboard.

Many Melbourne music, art and culture lovers marched on Parliament on February 23rd 2010, successfully pressuring the Government to acknowledge that Melbourne people love their live music, and their ve

  • The Songs of Robert Lloyd at Holy Trinity Church

    MelbourneEast Arts Festival

Robert Lloyd has served the Australian and International Arts/Music world since 1986. Beginning in Adelaide he has travelled the world performing and composing his unique music and songs.

I have a couple of Robert’s albums but have seen little of him live so it was wonderful to be invited to see his performance at Holy Trinity Church in East Melbourne, a show that is part of the MelbourneEast Arts Festival.

President of Iceland Olafur Ragnar Grimsson identifies that it is a sane choice by nations to protect their democracies by simply allowing the banks to crash and default the payment of loans due to the IMF and simply rebuild their countries from the ground up.

After suffering IMF debts that were 10 times their national GDP, when the GFC hit, unlike Australia, Iceland's banks went crashing down in tune with the EU.

To take this idea of Crowd Sourced Democracy and apply it to Australia isn't as far fetched as we may think.

We all identify as Australians, whether from the far east, west, north or south, and every bit in the middle of this country. Our geological wealth is being sucked out of the country with relatively poor returns to the national coffers and our economy is tortured by global financial and economic organisations that would
