The Toorak Times was invited to the very final show of Sharky and the Caddman, held at the Palms in the Crown casino, on the evening of Saturday 21st June.
This was indeed the final show of what has been a hectic but incredibly successful national tour the boys. The concert, titled "The Story of Sharky & The Caddman" and it bought together two of Australia's favourite musical "sons": Brian Cadd and Glenn Shorrock.
These two front-men weren't just supported , but indeed partnered five top musicians in their own right.

In essence the show revolves around the journey and the history of the music of Brian and Glenn from their earliest beginnings to their most recent pieces, both within Australia and Internationally.
I spoke with Glyn Mason who told me that the chemistry on stage was unbelievable, and that they had a fantastic time and memorable time over the six months.
Well it showed. From moment one when Glenn and Brian came onto stage, first solo, and then with the band quietly slipping in behind them, it was obvious that these guys were totally relaxed, and were at the top of their game.
The audience was unanimous in their love for the men and their music as we traversed the past fifty plus years of rock and roll and its derivatives, as the the two men commenced paying tribute to the musical elements that influenced them, covering everything from the 1950's Doo Wop, through to the Beatles, Stones and The Band.
Talking about the band, with Sam See on guitar and keyboards, Glyn Mason on guitars, Chris Stockley on guitar and mandolin, Jason Vorherr on bass and Doug Lavery on drums - with all contributing to vocals - it was a master class! We would expect nothing less with the combined pedigree of these guys and they delivered in spades.
Sure there was the odd missed note, and odd top note not quite hit, but we are talking the cream of Australian musicianship and it was live! Did we in the audience forgive them for this rare musical errors, forgive them? There was nothing to forgive as class shines through and it was all woven into the show.
The humour and camaraderie on the stage was great, and what made it great was it was not an "in-thing" between the group and its singers, which is often the case. Oh no, it was shared and shared so well with the audience.
The venue was spot-on! The palms is set out in a tiered "booth" style, and has a central setting of chairs on the flat in front of the stage. The sound system is excellent and the lighting supports the sound. We would expect nothing less at the Crown.
What else can be said? The music spoke for itself!
Will the show come back again in the future. It is our belief that we should never say, never! The guys have earned a break, although the Toorak Times believes that both Brian and Glenn have other projects they will now undertake, but somehow i believe the amazing audience response to this show may have been a strong indicator, that the Australian music public know and appreciate real class when it comes to its home-grown artists, and it would be a mistake not to give them more.
So if in the future, there is a Sharky and The Caddman show, and you have the opportunity of attending, please - do not hesitate!
