CLOSER
A Joy Division Celebration with Peter Hook
“… this is the closest thing you're ever going to get to Joy Division."

On the 18th of May 1980, the musical world was rocked by the tragic suicide of Joy Division lead singer, Ian Curtis. Two months later, fans were to receive the last official new release from the Manchester four piece in the form of CLOSER – the second and final Joy Division album.
After the success of his 2010 Unknown Pleasures 30th Anniversary Tour, Joy Division bassist, PETER HOOK, will return to Australia in 2012 with his band THE LIGHT, to play songs from CLOSER - back to back - with shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. The tour is a celebration of the legacy of the music of Joy Division who, in just three and half years together, became one of the most formidable and influential bands in musical history.
Spawning the classic tracks ‘Isolation’ and ‘Heart And Soul’, the album reached #6 on the UK Albums Chart at the time of its release, and claimed the #1 slot on NME Album of the Year. Since then, CLOSER has received numerous accolades: it was ranked #10 on Pitchfork Media's Top 100 Albums of the 1980s, #72 on NME's 100 Greatest British Albums Eve and in 2006 was ranked #8 in Q Magazine’s list of 40 Best Albums of the '80s.
Peter Hook is a founding member two of the most significant bands in popular musical history – Joy Division and New Order – and a legend in his own right. His 2010 Australian ‘Unknown Pleasures’ tour was a huge success with sell-out shows at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre, and the Enmore in Sydney.Hooky and the music of Joy Division was received with open arms by grateful fans who, 30 years on, still hold this phenomenal contribution to musical history close to their hearts.
As bleak as it is beautiful, CLOSER is as relevant now as it was on its release. Don’t miss your chance to witness this epic Joy Division experience, live.

I had the opportunity of filming a live to air interview at 3CR between Blues journalist / presenter Werner Martin and visiting Blues legend Ivan Zar. Ivan painted a picture through word and song about his experiences touring indigenous communities throughout the Kimberley over a 20 year period. Fascinating to say the least. And I will present that footage in ...-

"In the late 1970's the cool place to see bands in Melbourne was Bananas on The Esplanade in St Kilda. The music industry's fore fathers and mothers of Australian Rock n Roll all played at this great iconic venue. Six months ago a bunch of Aussie rockers and promoter Jef Risk got together to rekindle the Bananas days and now we are about to hold the second Bananas Too! gig on Sunday 28th October at the Memo Theatre, 88 Acland Street, St Kilda kicking off at 3pm......tickets at the door $25.......
