The combination of long time friendships in the band and their love of the many facets of the jazz genre brings to their performances a compassion and empathy for both musical expression and entertainment. The vocal talents of Mel Searle adds sophistication to the presentation of swing and latin tunes, with a bebop influence on the instrumentals. The individual players in the Craig Smith Quintet are also seasoned improvisers who have performed in and around the Melbourne Jazz scene for many years.
