Van Haandel Group Media Announcement - STOKEHOUSE IN THE CITY!

    STOKEHOUSE IN THE CITY!

Van Haandel Group's flagship restaurant Stokehouse Melbourne was destroyed fire on 17 January 2014. The Group then immediately launched a 3-month Pop-Up on the St Kilda site, which is a runaway success. The Pop-Up will close on Mother's Day, 11 May 2014, to ensure that the site will be available for the rebuild. The new Stokehouse building is unlikely to be completed until early 2015 and we have been looking for a temporary home for Stokehouse until that time. After considering many alternative premises, the Group has identified 7 Alfred Place, Melbourne (currently trading as Hotel Comme) as the only viable option for the new temporary project, Stokehouse City. "The impact that the fire has had on the Group has forced us to make some extremely tough decisions and it is incredibly sad to say goode to the amazing team at Comme, and we wish to thank them for their contribution and hard work. Under these exceptional circumstances, I believ...

  • Newmarket Hotel linked to Salmonella cases

Newmarket Hotel linked to Salmonella cases

An egg farm has been restricted in selling its eggs until it improves its hygiene after being linked to salmonella outbreaks that have caused more than 200 Victorians to become ill.

The Green Eggs farm in Great Western has had its sales to supermarkets, farmers markets, restaurants and cafes restricted the Department of Primary Industries until it improves its food safety.

Measures demanding the farm wash all of its eggs for sale and improve hygiene in laying sheds come after a Department of Health investigation linked eggs from the farm to a recent salmonella outbreak at Torquay’s Bottle of Milk restaurant, which resulted in dozens of people attending hospital emergency departments and 220 becoming ill.

In recent days a handful of salmonella cases have also emerged among diners at St Kilda’s Newmarket Hotel, located at 34 Inkerman Street, which had also sourced eggs from the Green Eggs farm.
