Generations in Jazz 2012 was yet again an amazing weekend of music, friends and inspiration. Having Gordon Goodwin with us for the second time was a treat and the standard of playing from all of you was something of which you should be proud.

The BIG news for 2013 is that... wait for it... drum roll... trumpet fanfare

Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band is coming to Generations! Yes, that’s right, the entire big band. What’s even more amazing is that they won’t be playing anywhere else in Australia.

    Yarra's Edge Jazz Festival 2013

Picnic in the Park and all the Jazz

Our Schools Jazz event is on at Yarra's Edge again as part of the Food and Wine Festival. This year it's "Picnic in the Park and all the Jazz" on 2nd and 3rd March.

It is being held at Point Park, Yarra's Edge.

The Festival is a family friendly place and the park will become a secure space with a stage, food and wine vendors and fancy toilet facilities, even a picket fence! There will be security in place to manage a safe event.

Examples of vendors; Hooks, Bistro Vite (Yarra's Edge restaurant that runs Jazz every Sunday, Howard Belling played there after Scotch last year), Mad Duck, Claypots Evening Star, Timboon Fine Ice Cream, Mission to Seafarers Farmers Market - all finest quality.

This year the Yarra's Edge Jazz Festival have jazz ensembles from Melbourne's finest musical secondary schools; Wesley, Parade College, St Leonards, Frankston...

    Melbourne Schools Bands and Strings

The Melbourne School Bands and Strings Festival is to be held at Monash University between August 8 -25. Sponsored by Allans Billy Hyde, this annual event sends an adrenaline rush through all Melbourne school's students and staff and is a massive logistical and practical exercise for all involved. I went along to Frankston High School last night to watch my 15 year old son James playing drums and percussion in the Jazz Band, Intermediate and Senior Show Bands and my daughter Emma on alto saxophone in the Junior Show Band. They were both wonderful. All up we watched 7 bands play 3 songs each, including the Year 7 kids who sat patiently all night on the floor to finish the night with and encore and the crowd wanting more. Frankston High is an amazing education institution and I am proud and honoured to have my 3 children attending their great college. You can watch the acts via the live streaming on the Allans Billy Hyde site ...
