I had the pleasure of meeting Tunisian born, Parisian musician Jean-Pierre Smadja aka SMADJ who is currently on tour along the east coast of Australia performing with his signature Oud, both acoustic and electric.

With it’s origins in the Middle East the Oud is considered a sacred instrument and described as the King of Instruments. Legend has it that the Oud was invented by Lamech, the sixth grandson of Adam from the pharaonic era stretching back over 5,000 years.

Smadj grew up listening to Oriental, Brazilian, funk and folk music and started his musical career as a Jazz guitarist at age 15. His interest in the mechanics of making music lead him to pursue a degree in sound engineering resulting in a fruitful career as a recording and sound engineer for other famous musicians.

AUSTRALIAN TOUR POSTPONED – RESCHEDULED DATES TO FOLLOW
Today, it is with regret that Mac Miller is announcing the postponement of his upcoming Australian tour dates. After three long months on the road, playing over 70 shows in 90 days, he is postponing his trip due to exhaustion. Mac adds “Thank you to my loyal fans in Australia and New Zealand for all of the support over the years. I wouldn’t want to perform for you unless I was 100% healthy and on top of my game. I promise I will be back to rock with you guys soon.” While we encourage fans to hold on to their tickets, the option to secure a refund is now available to ticketholders via their point of purchase. Frontier Touring wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused and advises that revised dates are already in the works for 2016. New dates will be announced in the new year and if they are not suitable, rest assured ticketholders will still be able to secure a refund. Updates on t

Exit Ceremonies – a pulsating ritual of repetition and evolving patterns in new music works for pipe organ

Two of Australia’s most vibrant musical forces, Australian Art Orchestra and Ensemble Offspring present Exit Ceremonies, uniting with giant of American experimental music, Alvin Lucier, and celebrated young composer-pianists: Austin Buckett (Australia) and Simon James Phillips (Germany), who have each created immersive and bespoke compositions that exploit the extraordinary array of sonic effects that can only be achieved with large pipe organs.

For one night only on Saturday, 6 February 2016, Exit Ceremonies will create an unfamiliar and entrancing world of sound with the unexpected addition of reel-to-reel tape machines, turntables, electronics, percussion, vocals, trumpet and strings in combination
