Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principal of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community.
This is the second part of a 4-part program on Baby Boomer Claire Humphrys. Growing up through the 1960’s mean growing up through a period of massive and rapid changes in society and the arts. In this part of her story, Claire shares the wonderful tale of how she became connected and involved the what might be termed the “top-end” of the arts world, and how this led her to meeting a swarthy gypsy looking boy.
This boy would not just cause "tingles" in her feet but would sweep her off her them. He was destined to become not only her husband but, an icon of Australian music in the 1960’s. His name? Gerry Humphrys. They marry and Claire finds herself in heaven on earth. The stories just pour forth, and include the story of Gerry's classical upbringing, his work with the Red Onions Jazz band all of which lead to his fronting one of Australia's most loved groups of the 1960's, and as he is swept up in it all, so is Claire!
